CERN — History

Wow, this is an amazing historic film from Scoble. The interview is with Ben Segal, a CERN retiree, it is amazing because it finally shows how the true beauty of technological advancement exists without financial gain. It is an hour long but worth every minute.

I’ve read a lot of old HBS articles about how Venture capitalists find most of their funding from projects that come from either industry or from the research sector.  The creation of CERN really shows that government funding can do amazing things for the world.

If you don’t know who Tim Berners-Lee is you don’t deserve to have a web-page. Honestly, you have to remember that the whole thing was created from a physics lab, a true collaboration between countries. “No one understood what Tim was doing, it took a few years to explain and convince people that web would actually be something useful and workable, people didn’t belive it, even when they saw it.”

One of the reasons I like Scoble is because in the end, he sucks. He doesn’t do quotes, he doesn’t do snippets, I don’t care about the soundbite — if i want that I just go to valleywag. When I want true, real information there is no other game in town.

Once again, thank you Scoble and to Mr. Segal for the tour and for doing the due dilligence in documenting our true history.

BTW, where is the Brian Cox(sp?) link.

Did you get to meet Scoble at SAP TechEd?

  2. dan Says:

Actually we didn’t apparently because Scoble didn’t want to deal with our big company.
